Artist Samantha Clark

Growing up in Port Macquarie, surrounded by rich family history and a strong sense of place, Samantha Clark developed an early appreciation for storytelling.
Today, she channels that perspective into expressive works that blur the lines between drawing, painting and collage, capturing moments, memories and meaning through a distinctly personal lens.
Samantha describes her artistic practice as an act of “journalistic storytelling,” where each piece documents not just a scene, but an emotion or experience. Her work is a bold and honest exploration of self, weaving together colour, shape and handwritten elements to create layered narratives that invite viewers to look deeper.
At the heart of her approach is a willingness to push boundaries. Samantha embraces the unknown in every canvas, seeing the first marks as the beginning of a new adventure. Rather than following traditional rules of design, she challenges them, believing that breaking conventions leads to more engaging and memorable art.
Colour plays a central role in her work, acting as both energy and emotion. As she puts it, “Colours are my energy. They bring life to art, adding depth and nourishing both the subject and the viewer. It’s the most powerful stroke of emotion an artist can make.”
This philosophy is evident in her vibrant, effervescent style, which has become her signature.
Since 2011, Samantha has exhibited widely across Australia, with shows in boutique galleries and unique venues from the Hunter Valley and Mosman to Newtown, Fitzroy, Geelong and Brisbane, as well as throughout the Hastings region.
Her artistic journey gained momentum following her 2009 win in the Tastings of the Hastings Art Prize, an early recognition of her talent and creative voice.
More recently, Samantha’s adventurous spirit has led her to explore new directions in her art. Drawing inspiration from nature, spirituality and her interest in tarot, her work is evolving into a deeper exploration of connection, intuition and self-discovery. Through this, she hopes not only to tell her own story but also to inspire others to follow their instincts, embrace their creativity, and connect with what moves them.
