Artist Sarah Spencer

Sarah Spencer was born and raised in the south of England before relocating to Australia in 2003. A creative spirit from early on, Sarah painted and exhibited in Sydney more than 15 years ago, before stepping away from the canvas to focus on raising her three boys. Now living in Lake Cathie, a picturesque coastal town in regional New South Wales, Sarah has returned to painting with renewed passion and a fresh perspective.

Known for her bold, expressive watercolours and ink artworks, Sarah is celebrated for her ability to capture the beauty and atmosphere of her coastal surroundings. Her work is deeply influenced by the rhythms of family life lived by the water - the lake, the ocean, and the ever-shifting landscape of the Hastings region. Her paintings reflect this connection, offering viewers a vivid, joyful interpretation of the world around her.

Sarah’s artistic process is intuitive and playful. She works primarily with watercolours and inks, using a variety of tools to experiment with mark-making and texture. Embracing the unpredictability of her materials, she allows the medium to guide the piece - welcoming happy accidents and organic forms that emerge during the creative process. This approach gives her work a sense of freedom and spontaneity that feels alive on the page.
