Judy lives at Port Macquarie and has been painting since 1985. Her work includes contemporary emotive landscapes, abstract works, still life, portraits and figurative studies. She is inspired by the Australian Bushland and tries to capture the essence rather than an exact depiction.
Judy has no preconceived ideas of an outcome when she paints. She allows the painting to tell her what to do next. She enjoys the richness and vibrancy of strong colour, and says “The process of working is largely instinctive with no pre-conceived ideas initially of the finished result. Acrylic paint is the dominant medium used”. Judy use’s random marks and textures, layers of washes, collage, inks and charcoal. Judy describes the process as “trying something, assessing, editing or modifying, rejecting or accepting, then knowing when to stop”.
Five years of Visual Arts studies at Southern Cross University and TAFE convinced Judy that the best way to work is to paint in her own studio, and to developed my own individual style.
Judy’s work has been on display at galleries including Weswal Gallery Tamworth, Butterflies Gallery Pokolbin, Sunset Gallery Port Macquarie, Masterpiece Gallery Port Macquarie, Blue Poles Gallery Byabarra. She teaches 2 classes a week at the Hamilton House on Hastings River Drive, Port Macquarie.
