Gail Sue
3rd - 14th August
Gail comes from Oatley, a southern suburb of Sydney Australia. In 2006 she opened a Gallery in Jannali N.S.W, and ran workshops. She relocated to Wilmington N.C. U.S.A. in 2007, and then returned to Australia in 2010. Gail now lives and works from her Studio at Gum Scrub on the Mid North Coast of N.S.W Australia.
"I've always had a passion for painting but really only dabbled until joining a weekly traditional oil painting class in 1989. Purely by accident in 2002 I attended a workshop in Abstract Painting using Acrylic paint and Mixed Media. Since then I have worked primarily in Acrylic, investigating different techniques in this medium.
I had no formal education in Art until getting a Diploma in Visual Arts in 2013. Over the past 30 years I have attended countless workshops ( to many to mention), and participated in many group and solo exhibitions in Australia and U.S.A, the most recent being in Bellingen on the Mid North Coast of N.S.W. My work hangs in private collections in Australia, South Africa, Canada, U.S.A. Singapore and the Netherlands.
The visual splendour of the Mid North Coast, the history of Sydney, as well as many of the counties I have visited are motivation for much of my work.
I can be inspired by a shape or a colour, a personal experience or a story related by another, and enjoy the challenge of experimenting with new methods and mediums.
Recently I have fallen in love with printmaking, from creating the plate to the final print. I find this process to be both exciting and rewarding.
The fact that I am influenced by abstract, non-representational forms and arrangements of colour is intriguing. Often a painting will tell me what to do, taking me on a journey with an unknown destination. The process of creating being as important as the finished work. I enjoy translating topics and themes into visual language, applying this special way of seeing in an abstracted way or sometimes with a more contemporary feel"
